Frankenwod Recap

Yesterday I competed in the "Frankenwod" throwdown, hosted by CrossFit San Jose. This competition had 60 teams of 3 people, 30 teams "scaled" and 30 teams "rx". The teams were 2 guys and 1 girl, which is a good combination. Most teams of 2 men and 2 women are often limited by the second female. I saw a few familiar faces and a couple games competitors had teams as well (neal maddox and ashley carriveau).

There were 4 scored events that all teams competed in:
1. Max load 2 position snatch; floor and anywhere above knee hang
teams had 6 mins for all 3 members to establish a max load, only 1 person working at a time. This time went by fast, I completed 168# which i was happy with. I think we won this event.

Event 1 was followed by a 60 second rest and straight into event 2:

2. Max reps thrusters in 3 mins (135#/83#) for total reps; 1 person per team working at a time. I think my sets were 12, 10, 12, and 8.. not sure our total

3. "fight gone bad style"
4 rounds
1 min burpee box jumps
1 min KBS (70#/44#)
1 min tire flips (odd rounds) 1 min sled push (even rounds)
30 sec rest b.t rounds
This event was the hardest/worst planned event for the day. Half the teams were in the shade on the black top, half the teams were in the sun. Half the teams had a sled that slid really easily, half the teams had sleds that wouldn't budge. Our team was unlucky and got the sun and the bad sled lane, this was not a great event for us. I was trying to push the sled and a speed bump was in the way, then my shoes were sliding and I couldn't get a grip with my feet. the KBS and burpee box jumps were both really tough as expected.

4. 1 team member does 1 portion of this work out (7min total time cap)
"mini fran" 15-11-7
500m row
15 clean and jerks (185#/135#)
Dylan did fran, nick rowed, and i did the heavy half grace. I think this was super fun and exciting, kind of like a tag-team event. We either got 1st or second overall on this. My clean and jerks were all singles and done in 1:11

After these events, the top 6 were established and the finals were a single elimination style. We were in second but after they redid some scoring this (a bit of confusion with event 1 vs event 3 scoring so they changed stuff around), we were 5th. The scores were cleared for the finals, and the bottom 2 teams after each work out were eliminated. This was a really exciting way to end the day. I think it was super fun and nerve wracking for both the spectators and athletes.

1. As a team:
50 chest 2 bar
50 OHS (135#/83#)
50 bar facing burps
*1 person working at a time, must complete all reps of 1 movement before moving to the next
I think we got 3rd here, but whatever it was, it was good enough to move on

the breaks between events were only a couple minutes, they just transitioned and set up equipment so maybe 3 mins b.t each

2. each teammate completes:
Building sprint (~400m)
10 hang squat cleans (135#/83#)
3 rope climbs
*Athlete A runs then tags athlete B. Athlete A continues with the work out while athlete B takes off for their run... I think we got first or second here

3. Max reps MUs in 2 min for team
tied with 26 for 1st
I did 6 reps then 2 or 3 reps

4. Finale was us vs team "proanox" so it was a good show
overhead lunges (45#/30# DB per hand) ~ 30m
30 HSPU
1st place!
300 DU
30 stone to shoulder (120#/95#)
Overhead lunges

We got ahead on the first set of lunges and never lost our lead, although it was close. It was a great finish!
Glad I did this competition to kind of get back into it. And of course it is always fun to win.
