Day 1

The Big Dawg Bash last weekend was awesome and proved that hard work pays off. I left with more knowledge and motivation than I ever have had in my life. I have been very consistent the past few months and I was able to show up and do well. Throughout the fitness test, my strengths and weaknesses were exposed. I placed very high in the two events I knew I would do well at (c&j and reverse toss) and I was really challenged in two events (the circuit and the 3k). I need to fix my engine quite a bit. I am powerful, but I need to become stronger and more enduring. I am lucky to only be 21 years old, I think being young is advantageous because I have a very long fitness future.

I now have a coach who works on personal program design to help get me to where I need to be. We've discussed goals upon many other things and the bottom line is I love to compete but I don't like to lose. I am ready for whatever it takes. I could not be more excited for this journey! My program design is from OPT's Michael FitzGerald. The timing of everything was perfect, I talked with him a few times over the weekend and he was able to assess me as well as see me in action and really get a sense of what's going on. I had to log a few days of my diet prior to our consultation to see where my nutrition is at. This has motivated me to keep a log from now on. I wouldn't want to write down that I drank coke or had pizza, so it's unlikely I will ever eat it as long as I log my food.

Today was the first day of my new program with Michael. One thing I need to do is get my little legs stronger so that's pretty much what I worked on today. I walked away from a "strength" training day winded and super sweaty. I think I will be pretty sore tomorrow and I'm looking forward to it. I don't plan to post all my work outs but,  here's a look at day 1:

  2. Great job at the OPTathon!

I'm just curious - what does th "@30x1" part of the WoD mean? I've seen it a few times on OPT, but never could figure out what it meant.

  3. thank you,

    30X1 is a tempo
so the first # signifies the count down, so back squats here on the way down were slow (3 second count down...1 one thousand, 2 one thousand, 3 one thousand) The second # signifies a pause at the bottom so 0 means no pause, X- explode up, and the 3rd # is the pause at the top, so here was a 1 second pause at the top.
