Moxie Madness

Yesterday I competed in a local competition Moxie Madness www.moxiemadness.com individual series. This was a good test for me prior to the open. The work outs themselves were not great ones for me, which made it even better practice. Prior to the competition I hadn't really trained since last Wednesday. Thursday I started feeling sick and on Friday I stopped my work out about a third of the way through because I just felt sicker by the minute. I spent the rest of Friday and all of Saturday trying to just feel better; I tried every remedy out there but there is really nothing I could do, the sickness will just run its course.
I went into the competition feeling less than 80% well, but I was still looking forward to it. The connection center they had it in was really nice, and it was nice to not have to compete outside. In February it isn't so bad, but when it gets hot here, outside is no longer fun.
So here is a quick recap of the events
Event 1:
2 min max reps hang power snatch @85#  41 reps = 1st place
1 min rest
2 min max reps hang power clean @95# 37 reps = 3rd place
1 min rest
2 min max hang power clean to OH @115# 13 reps = 2nd place
(All with a men's bar)
+
4 min rest
+
4 rds:
30 sec max reps pull ups: 42 2nd place
30 sec max reps single arm kb snatch: 33 34th place
30 sec max reps box jumps 24": 40 23rd place
30 sec off
*pull ups rd one were supinated! round 2 were promoted, round 3 chest 2 bar, round 4 bar muscle ups, but they all counted as 1 score which made up only a fraction of the overall event 1 score
This was the one event where I couldn't catch my breath. I felt so congested and everything hurt, especially my grip and my low back. Really crapped out here

Event 2:
30 back squats 95#
50 bar facing burpees over bar
25 front squats 95#
40 bar facing burpees over bar
20 OHS 95#
30 bar facing burpees
*15 min cap
15:17 was my score/time this was 5th place.
Quads were pumped as expected

Event 3:
AMRAP in 12 min
10 DL 155#
20 double unders
6 x 10m shuttle run
15 DL 155#
30 double unders
6 x 10m shuttle run
20 DL 155#
40 double unders
6x 10m shuttle run
And so on
I got 22 DL on the round of 35 so I did A LOT of dead lifts
352 reps=4th place

Overall I placed 3rd. To win I would have needed some more complex movements. The girls ahead of me had great engines but lacked in the upper body strength as they both placed mid 20s for the pull ups alone. But since the pull ups didn't account for much of the overall score, I could not make up the point difference. The girl who got 1st actually placed 1 spot behind me in the 2013 open. I always hope for good events, but this was a good test for me to go into a competition knowing that not a single event was really "good" for me. These work outs were destined to be "doable" for everyone, so it was, in a sense, practice for the open.
As for today I am so sore. My low back has never felt so tight/sore in my life. I think it was mostly the hang movements, as it was already super tight before the DL workout which I am sure didn't help it. My biceps and chest are sore as well from pull ups/burpees. Trained twice today, I will update those results in tomorrow's post.
