Olympic Total!

Today I got the opportunity to work out with Billy Bybee, who just placed 4th in the nation for olympic lifting in his weight class. I love olympic weight lifting as a sport, I think it is just so cool. I always want to get better, but I fear if I step away from CrossFit for too long, I will never go back. I try my best to mix in both CrossFit and olympic weightlifting, but I find most of my time devoted to my CrossFit training. Billy put the trainers at my gym through a clinic about two weeks ago. The main thing I took home was the respective importance of positioning, movement, speed, then load. My biggest problem especially in the snatch and the jerk is my lack of full extension. I now have a little tool box of warm up movements and other skills to put myself through to train my body and mind to reach extension.

Anyways, today was awesome because I PR'd in my snatch, C&J, and my olympic total.
Snatch: 140#
C&J: 170#
Olympic Total: 310#
I have been trying to hit these numbers for months! It is pretty cool how certain words click with different athletes. For example, as I am getting ready to jerk after my clean, Billy told me to "get big" and loose hands "show me your finger tips"... I stuck out my chest as much as I could, and relaxed my hands. It's amazing how easy the lift will be when you do it right.

Immediately after the olympic lifting I went into my OPT training for today. Another Big Dawg, Brandon, was in town so it was fun to work out with him.
