End of the Open

It's finally the end of the Open and I am glad to be done. That was a long period of time and it really stressed me out. I did not do as well as I hoped but there's always next year, which is what I am going to shoot for. I felt like I was finally getting in better shape, and then I got really sick this past week. I just did 11.6 today, and I have not done anything since Tuesday, so I obviously did not perform as well as I would have hoped. I feel like I get sick more often than anybody else I know, it is the most frustrating thing ever because I feel so weak and tired for a week or two at a time quite frequently, and just as I improve in my training, I feel like I have to take a few steps back again. It honestly sucks and I try everything to avoid getting sick, but I always seem to catch every single bug that goes around.

Anyways, I need to stay focused for next year which will be the hard part. I think CrossFit as a sport is growing at a rapid pace and athletes are getting better at the same time. Next year's level of competition is going to be absurd. If I don't at least tell myself that next year I want to be competitive, I will never make it. If I dedicate my next year to hard training and staying focused, I will be competitive. I feel that I sometimes lose interest and I will start doing other things and forget about working out. I played around quite a bit with that this past year. I think I took from August until November off, with maybe 10 work outs total. Then I always seem to disappear when I have midterms or finals (which usually stresses me out causing me to get sick). I also took a few weeks off around the holidays and my birthday, and I really did not get focused until February. I can't do that this year. There's still "a whole year to train" but time flies and if I'm not getting better, somebody else in my region is (I saw that this year. Girls I beat last year kicked my ass this year). The bottom line is I can't stay focused all on my own. So if you are reading this, and you ever see me not trying my hardest, let me know... tell me to quit slacking. I am just like everyone else, I need motivation, I need support, and I need people to piss me off or call me out on stuff I could be doing better on! If you are still reading this and you're not a "follower" please follow me. My blog will not email you, and I just like to at least pretend that people care.

  1. You are the shit hahaha, this is exactly the kind of stuff that fires me up... I can tell by your vids and the words you put up here that you definitely CAN stay focused on your own, maybe you just got to find it in you. You got that heart, that desire for accomplishing your goals, all it takes is that extra step of drive to actualize what you already know you have to do.

Sorry to hear about the illness, it's a terrible feeling to work so hard and have injury/illness hold you back.. if you're not already taking one, a multivitamin can help with this a lot I believe. I've also heard a good whey protein like one from Whole Foods (not the over-processed crap from GNC) is good for the immune system as well. I rarely ever get sick nowadays but i feel like I did a LOT as a kid when I ate like shit and I don't really do anything special now except the above^ advice. Of course, overtraining can suppress one's immune system as well haha ;)

I know you think music is unnecessary for motivation, but I don't think a day goes by for me without listening to this song at least once haha... check it out when you got a minute

  3. I'm toooo ready for summer haha... with less than 2 weeks left, my focus on school is waning severely lol. It's a very courageous step to hold yourself accountable like this, I hope to see the blog keep going! Looking forward to training at Cadence.. It already feels like it's going to be a summer for making things happen!
